Self-portrait with historic hat: NVA Käppi
It's 19 years ago, that I finished service in the NVA, the Nationals Peoples Army of East Germany (DDR). I was so happy on that day in April 1986 to learn what freedom means, when the doors of the barracks opened and closed behind me. In the train home to Berlin I had lots of beers and met a sailor from the former DDR Fishing Marine. He made lots of money, by being far in the Atlantic on a trawler and cutting and friezing tons of fish. For a moment that seemed a approbiate job for me, but then 6 month or longer without women ?
Yesterday, Hubert from Erfurt gave me a gift, a hat of the former NVA, a so called KÄPPI, what I put first on my head since 1986. Strange.
